If you are involved in an accident, remain calm and follow the tips below.
Be sure not to leave the scene of the accident.
Check all involved parties for injuries. Everyone who can walk should move to a safe location. If necessary, call 911 for medical assistance.
Contact the police. When police are present at the scene of the accident, get the officer’s name, phone number, and the police report number.
If you have a camera or camera-phone, take photos of the damage to the vehicle, accident scene, and people involved.
Exchange contact information (names, addresses, and phone numbers) with all parties involved in the accident including witnesses.
Get the year, make, model, license plate number, insurance carrier, and insure policy number for all vehicles involved.
If your vehicle is drivable, call Hemingway’s to set up an appointment to get your vehicle in the shop (318-925-3636)
If your vehicle isn’t drivable, call a towing company or have Hemingway’s call one for you. If you are not sure where to have your vehicle towed, send it to Hemingway’s. Hemingway’s offers FREE storage for anyone having their vehicle repaired at our facility. The insurance company responsible for paying for your repairs is also responsible for paying the tow bill. If it is after business hours it doesn’t matter, have it sent to Hemingway’s anyway.
Contact the insurance company responsible at once, to inform them of the accident. Write down your claim number to ensure prompt service and accuracy. In some cases the shop writes the estimate damage and sends it to the insurance company. In other cases the insurance company sends out an adjuster to assess the damage.
If your wish is for Hemingway’s to repair your vehicle simply ask the insurance company to send Hemingway’s Collision an assignment or the claim number and the person’s information handling your claim. If you need alternative transportation and have rental coverage or the other parties insurance is paying the bill, the insurance company or Hemingway’s will set up the rental for you. Hemingway’s can arrange for the rental to meet you at our location.

In case of emergency you should always keep the following items in your vehicle:
Insurance ID card and vehicle registration
A list of emergency contacts
Medical card with you if you have allergies to any medication, or have a condition that requires special attention
Pens or pencils and a note pad
Flashlight
Flares
First-aid kit
Jumper cables
Disposable camera, Camera-phone, Digital camera
